🔥 Maple City Music Vermont Artist Highlight: BODY VOID, Winooski, VT

If you’ve been craving something heavier than heavy, something that feels like doom, noise, and raw truth colliding, meet Body Void, one of the most essential extreme bands from Vermont right now.

Who they are (and why they matter):

Body Void formed in 2014 (originally under the name Devoid) and later relocated to Winooski, Vermont bringing a fierce New England presence to a sound rooted in sludge/doom, drone, noise, and industrial textures.

Their music is confrontational, cathartic, and intentionally uncomfortable in the best way, often tied to queer and political themes,s with a focus on making art that means something.

Current lineup:

Willow Ryan – vocals/guitar/bass (+ synths on newer material)

Eddie Holgerson – drums/percussion

Janys-Iren Faughn – electronics/samples

Start here (the “turn it up” entry point): Atrocity Machine (2023)

Released 13 October 2023, Atrocity Machine is a brutal, precision-built record—short blasts into long stretches of crushing atmosphere. Tracks like “Uman Greenhouse,” “Flesh Market,” and “Cop Show” hit like a warning siren for the modern world.

Fun studio/nerd details (because we love those at Maple City Music): it was produced/recorded/mixed by Ben Greenberg, mastered by Brad Boatright, with artwork by Ethan Lee McCarthy.

More key releases (for the deep-dive):

Bury Me Beneath This Rotting Earth (2021)

I Live Inside a Burning House (2018)

Ruins (2016)

🎧 Maple City Music listening challenge:

Spin “Human Greenhouse” and tell us what it makes you feel—then drop your favorite Vermont heavy band in the comments so we can keep the spotlight rolling.

Because around here, music isn’t just background noise… It’s community, connection, and sometimes a necessary release. 🤘🍁
