Antal Dorati Conducts Bartók and Kodály (CD, Compilation, Club Edition, 1990, Mercury Living Presence D 134472)

Why This CD Matters
Antal Dorati was closely associated with the orchestral music of Bartók and Kodály, bringing rhythmic precision and a strong understanding of their Hungarian folk influences to these performances. The collection includes Kodály’s colorful Háry János Suite and Dances of Galánta alongside Bartók’s Hungarian Sketches and Roumanian Folk Dances. Performances feature the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonia Hungarica.

Collector Note
This is the BMG Direct club edition from Mercury’s acclaimed Living Presence series. The original sessions were captured on three-track half-inch tape using a minimal three-microphone setup under recording director Wilma Cozart and engineer C. Robert Fine. Dennis Drake mastered the CD using the original masters.
