Why This Record Matters
Cut The Cake followed Average White Band’s breakthrough self-titled album and continued the group’s blend of funk, soul, and tightly arranged horn-driven grooves. The album includes “Cut The Cake,” “School Boy Crush,” and their version of “If I Ever Lose This Heaven.” Arif Mardin produced the album, with Roger Ball arranging the horns and Ray Barretto contributing congas.

This 1975 US Atlantic SD 18140 edition is a Presswell pressing, identified by the PR suffixes in the label matrices and supplied runouts. Both variant 4 runouts carry AT markings for Atlantic Studios, where the album was mastered, with Dennis King credited for mastering. This copy includes the confirmed original inner sleeve.
