Why This Record Matters
Bad Brains’ self-titled debut was originally released by ROIR in 1982 after being recorded primarily at 171-A Studios in New York City in 1981. The record pairs the band’s early hardcore punk material with reggae tracks such as “Leaving Babylon” and “I Luv I Jah.” The lineup features H.R. on vocals, Dr. Know on guitar, Darryl Jenifer on bass, and Earl Hudson on drums.
Collector Note
This June 2021 U.S. reissue on Bad Brains Records and ORG Music carries catalog number ORGM-2179 and is part of the band’s remaster campaign. Dave Gardner mastered the audio at Infrasonic Sound, with the vinyl cut there and the pressing manufactured by Furnace Record Pressing.
