Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II collects Billy Joel’s major recordings from 1973 through 1985, including “Piano Man,” “New York State Of Mind,” “Just The Way You Are,” “My Life,” and “Uptown Girl.” The 25-track collection spans material from Piano Man through An Innocent Man while tracing Joel’s progression from piano-led singer-songwriter recordings to polished pop-rock productions. It also introduced two then-new recordings, “You're Only Human (Second Wind)” and “The Night Is Still Young,” both recorded and mixed at The Hit Factory in New York.

Collector Note
This 1985 U.S. Columbia / Family Productions two-CD edition carries catalog number G2K 40121, with individual disc numbers CK 40122 and CK 40123. This edition was manufactured by Digital Audio Disc Corp. and is identified as an early-generation DADC pressing, with DADC glass-master references DIDP 20273 and DIDP 20274. Phil Ramone produced the collection’s recordings, and the original double-CD package was issued with a 28-page booklet containing lyrics, photographs, and credits.
