Why This Record Matters
Planet Waves reunited Bob Dylan with The Band in the studio and arrived just ahead of their 1974 North American tour, their first full tour together since the 1960s. The album includes “On a Night Like This,” “Going, Going, Gone,” and two contrasting versions of “Forever Young,” which became one of Dylan’s enduring compositions. Released on Asylum rather than Columbia, Planet Waves became Dylan’s first album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
