Buddy Rich With The Killer Force Band – No Funny Hats (CD, Album, Lightyear Entertainment 54666-2)

Why This CD Matters
Recorded live in Sacramento in 1978, this set catches Buddy Rich leading the Killer Force Band through an energetic big-band performance. It moves from the swing standard “Bugle Call Rag” to the extended “Grand Concourse” and a suite of music from West Side Story. “Slow Funk” strips the ensemble down to a trio, giving the program a sharp change in sound and texture.

Collector Note
This 2004 US Lightyear CD was issued as part of The Buddy Rich Collector’s Series under catalog number 54666-2. The seven-track program includes the concert intro and the trio performance of “Slow Funk.”
