Why This Record Matters
Captain Beyond is the band’s 1972 debut, featuring former Deep Purple vocalist Rod Evans, Iron Butterfly members Lee Dorman and Larry “Rhino” Reinhardt, and drummer Bobby Caldwell. The album was recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders and mixed at the Record Plant in Los Angeles. Its interconnected hard-rock and progressive compositions include “Dancing Madly Backwards (On A Sea Of Air)” and the multi-part “Thousand Days Of Yesterdays” sequence.

Collector Note
This 1972 U.S. Capricorn Records CP 0105 edition was pressed at Columbia’s Pitman plant and features the lenticular 3D illustration mounted on the front cover. The user-confirmed Variant 4 runouts are CP-0105 40196 on Side A and CP-0105 40197 on Side B.
