Why This Record Matters
Love Devotion Surrender pairs Carlos Santana with John McLaughlin for a jazz-rock fusion project inspired in part by the music of John Coltrane, including interpretations of “A Love Supreme” and “Naima.” The sessions feature musicians including Billy Cobham, Larry Young, Doug Rauch, Armando Peraza, Don Alias, and Mingo Lewis. Santana and McLaughlin jointly produced the album.
