Why This Record Matters
Super Fly is Curtis Mayfield’s soundtrack to the 1972 film, combining socially conscious songwriting with soul and funk arrangements. “Freddie's Dead” and the title track became major hits, while “Pusherman” remains one of the album’s defining recordings. Mayfield wrote and produced the music, with Johnny Pate arranging and orchestrating the sessions.
