Why This Record Matters
Originally recorded in 1969, this album was reissued by RCA as Space Oddity in 1972 as Bowie’s international breakthrough accelerated. Alongside the title track, it contains expansive early compositions including “Cygnet Committee” and “Memory Of A Free Festival.” Tony Visconti produced most of the album, with contributors including Rick Wakeman, Herbie Flowers, and Paul Buckmaster.
