Young Americans marked Bowie’s move into American soul and R&B, with much of the album recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia. The sessions featured musicians including Carlos Alomar, David Sanborn, Luther Vandross, and Andy Newmark. “Fame,” co-written with John Lennon and Carlos Alomar, became Bowie’s first No. 1 single in the United States.
