Why This CD Matters
A landmark recording in modern overtone singing, created entirely from layered human voices apart from a small bell. Recorded in the resonant 12th-century Abbaye du Thoronet, it introduced David Hykes’ Harmonic Chant to a wider audience, while “Rainbow Voice” later appeared in films including Dead Poets Society, Baraka, and Blade.
Collector Note
This March 1989 French Ocora reissue was manufactured by PDO France. Its spacious acoustics and extraordinary vocal overtones have made Hearing Solar Winds an enduring ambient and experimental vocal recording.
