Why This CD Matters
Love Scenes centers Diana Krall’s piano and vocals in a stripped-down trio with guitarist Russell Malone and bassist Christian McBride. Produced by Tommy LiPuma and recorded and mixed by Al Schmitt, the album draws largely from jazz standards including “They Can't Take That Away From Me” and “How Deep Is The Ocean.” The intimate trio setting became an important part of Krall’s early sound and helped establish her internationally as both a jazz vocalist and pianist.

Collector Note
This 1997 US Impulse! edition, catalog number IMPD-233, is the Digipak version of Love Scenes rather than one of the US jewel-case issues. The disc carries matrix C2 122001-01 IMPD-233 MFG. BY UNIVERSAL and mastering SID code IFPI L892, with manufacturing associated with Universal and Technicolor's Camarillo operation. Doug Sax mastered the album at The Mastering Lab, completing a strong production team that also included Tommy LiPuma and Al Schmitt.
