Liszt helped establish the symphonic poem as a major form of nineteenth-century orchestral music. This collection features seven of his symphonic poems performed by the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under Kurt Masur, including Les préludes, Tasso, Prometheus, Festklänge, and Mazeppa.
