Why This CD Matters
A Caddy For Daddy captures Hank Mobley leading a formidable hard-bop sextet with Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller, McCoy Tyner, Bob Cranshaw, and Billy Higgins. Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder at his Englewood Cliffs studio on December 18, 1965, the session combines four Mobley compositions with Wayne Shorter’s “Venus Di Mildew.” Alfred Lion produced the original session, pairing Mobley’s tenor with trumpet and trombone for a three-horn front line.

Collector Note
This 1990 U.S. Blue Note CD reissue carries catalog number CDP 7 84230 2 and barcode 077778423027. This edition was glass mastered by Sanyo U.S.A. and pressed by Capitol Jax, with Michael Cuscuna credited as reissue producer. The five-track stereo program preserves the original album sequence and packaging credits Reid Miles for the cover photograph and design.
