Why This CD Matters
This recording pairs Samuel Barber’s three-movement Violin Concerto, Op. 14 with Edgar Meyer’s two-movement Violin Concerto, performed by Hilary Hahn with Hugh Wolff conducting The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Meyer’s concerto is presented here as its world-premiere recording, placing a contemporary work alongside one of the major American violin concertos of the 20th century. Recorded in September 1999 at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul, the album captures Hahn early in her international recording career.
