Why This Record Matters
Released posthumously in 1971, Pearl became Janis Joplin’s defining solo album and spent nine weeks at number one on the Billboard 200. Produced by Paul A. Rothchild with the Full Tilt Boogie Band, it features “Move Over,” “Cry Baby,” “Mercedes Benz,” and the number-one single “Me & Bobby McGee.”
Collector Note
1971 US stereo pressing manufactured at Columbia Records’ Pitman plant. The stamped “P” and “o” markings in the runouts identify the Pitman pressing and Customatrix metalwork.
