Jean-Luc Ponty – King Kong - Jean-Luc Ponty Plays The Music Of Frank Zappa (CD, Album, Reissue, Capitol Jax Pressing, Blue Note CDP 0777 7 89539 2 0)

Why This CD Matters
This album documents the musical partnership between Jean-Luc Ponty and Frank Zappa, who arranged the selections for Ponty’s electric violin and jazz ensemble. The program moves from “King Kong,” “Idiot Bastard Son,” and “Twenty Small Cigars” to the 19-minute “Music For Electric Violin And Low Budget Orchestra.” That extended composition turns the album’s closing stretch into a showcase for Zappa’s orchestral writing and Ponty’s violin.
