Why This Record Matters
Jumpin' Jive marked Joe Jackson’s sharp departure from his early new wave work into 1940s swing and jump blues associated with artists such as Louis Jordan and Cab Calloway. Jackson arranged and produced the album, leading a compact horn-driven ensemble featuring Graham Maby, Pete Thomas, Dave Bitelli, Raul Oliviera, Larry Tolfree, and Nick Weldon. The album reached No. 42 on the US Billboard album chart.
Collector Note
This 1981 US A&M SP-4871 edition was pressed at RCA Records Pressing Plant, Indianapolis, identified by the R plant code on the labels and serifed I stamps in the runouts. The supplied variant 3 matrices carry the ⚇ etching associated with Frank DeLuna, with Bob Carbone credited for mastering at A&M Studios. The label configuration differs from another US issue through its writer and publisher credits.
