Why This Record Matters
Saints & Sinners is a 1974 Johnny Winter album produced by Rick Derringer, continuing Winter’s blues-rock work for Columbia. The program combines original material with interpretations of Chuck Berry’s “Thirty Days,” the Rolling Stones’ “Stray Cat Blues,” and the Leiber-Stoller song “Riot In Cell Block #9.” Recording took place at the Record Plant, the Hit Factory, and the Village Recorder with engineers including Jimmy Iovine, Bill Szymczyk, Roger Nichols, and Allan Blazek.
