Why This Record Matters
Islands is King Crimson’s fourth studio album and one of the band’s most atmospheric releases, blending progressive rock with jazz, classical instrumentation, and extended improvisation. Robert Fripp is joined by Boz Burrell, Mel Collins, Ian Wallace, and several guest musicians on pieces including “Formentera Lady,” “Sailor’s Tale,” and the title track.
Collector Note
1972 US Atlantic gatefold pressing manufactured by Presswell with the original inner sleeve included. Both sides were cut at Atlantic Studios by respected mastering engineer George Piros, identified by the “AT/GP” inscriptions in the runouts.
