Why This Record Matters
Starless And Bible Black documents King Crimson’s 1973–74 lineup of Robert Fripp, John Wetton, Bill Bruford, and David Cross, with much of the album built from live performances and improvisation. “The Night Watch,” “Trio,” and the title track came from the band’s November 1973 Amsterdam concert, while “Fracture” became one of Fripp’s defining guitar compositions. The album directly precedes Red in King Crimson’s 1970s catalog.
