Why This CD Matters
First Course launched Lee Ritenour’s solo recording career in 1976 with a blend of jazz fusion, funk, and melodic guitar work. The nine instrumental tracks feature a strong Los Angeles studio lineup, including Dave Grusin, Harvey Mason, Tom Scott, Chuck Rainey, and Patrice Rushen. “Fatback” rides a tight funk groove, while “Memories Past” gives Ritenour space for a brief classical-guitar interlude.
Collector Note
This 1990 US Epic/Legacy CD belongs to the Columbia Jazz Contemporary Masters series and carries catalog number EK 46114. Remastered by Vic Anesini, it presents the album’s original nine-track program.
