Why This CD Matters
Recorded at the 1969 Montreux Jazz Festival, Swiss Movement captures a spontaneous meeting between pianist and vocalist Les McCann, saxophonist Eddie Harris, trumpeter Benny Bailey, and McCann’s trio. “Compared To What” became McCann’s signature performance, bringing the group’s live soul-jazz sound to a wider audience. The five-track set moves from that vocal-led opener into extended instrumental interplay on “Cold Duck Time” and “The Generation Gap.”

Collector Note
This US Atlantic Jazz CD reissue carries catalog number 1537-2 and the original five-track album program. The release information lists Specialty Records Corporation as the pressing plant; it lists no release year for this CD issue. It preserves the concert sequence from “Compared To What” through “The Generation Gap.”
