The Road To Ensenada won the Grammy Award for Best Country Album and reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Lovett moves between country, western swing, balladry, and his characteristically dry songwriting on songs including “Don’t Touch My Hat,” “Fiona,” and “That’s Right (You’re Not From Texas).” The sessions also drew on an extensive cast of musicians and guests, including Leland Sklar, Russ Kunkel, Paul Franklin, Randy Newman, Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin, Chris Hillman, and Herb Pedersen.

This 1996 US Curb/MCA edition carries catalog number MCAD-11409 and was manufactured through UNI, with the disc associated with Technicolor’s Camarillo glass-mastering operation. Doug Sax mastered the album at The Mastering Lab, with Lyle Lovett and Billy Williams producing the sessions, which were recorded and mixed at Conway Studios. The program includes “The Girl In The Corner” as a hidden track following the title track.
