Mahavishnu Orchestra – Birds Of Fire (CD, Album, Reissue, Columbia CK 31996)

Why This CD Matters
Birds Of Fire is the Mahavishnu Orchestra’s second studio album, bringing jazz improvisation together with amplified rock and intricate ensemble playing. John McLaughlin’s guitar and Jan Hammer’s Moog share the spotlight with Jerry Goodman’s violin and Billy Cobham’s percussion. The title track and the extended “One Word” showcase the group’s dynamic range and rhythmic drive.

Collector Note
This is an undated US Columbia CD reissue, catalog CK 31996, with SID codes indicating it was pressed no earlier than September 1994. It preserves the original ten-track album sequence, including the 21-second “Sapphire Bullet Of Pure Love.” The catalog number distinguishes this issue from the later Columbia/Legacy 20-bit remaster.
