Why This Record Matters
Malo’s 1972 debut introduced the San Francisco band’s Latin rock sound to a national audience. Its hit “Suavecito” reached No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the album reached No. 14 on Billboard’s album chart. Led by Jorge Santana, the band blends rock, soul, jazz, and Latin styles across six extended tracks, including “Pana,” “Nena,” and “Peace.”
