Why This Record Matters
Nightingales & Bombers captures Manfred Mann’s Earth Band in its mid-1970s progressive and hard-rock period, with Mick Rogers, Colin Pattenden and Chris Slade alongside Mann. The US edition includes interpretations of Bruce Springsteen’s “Spirits In The Night” and Bob Dylan’s “Quit Your Low Down Ways,” the latter appearing on the US version but not the European editions. The album title was inspired by a wartime field recording of nightingales interrupted by passing bombers, incorporated into “As Above So Below.”

US 1975 Warner Bros. Records/Bronze pressing manufactured at Columbia’s Pitman plant. The copy-specific runouts correspond to variant 2 and carry the P identifiers associated with the Pitman pressing; this copy also includes the original inner sleeve.
