Maria Schneider Orchestra – The Thompson Fields (CD, Album, Pocket Sized Hardcover, ArtistShare AS0137)

Why This CD Matters
Maria Schneider’s compositions bring a large jazz ensemble together across eight extended pieces, with “Arbiters Of Evolution” and “Lembrança” each running more than thirteen minutes. The arrangements draw color from the orchestra’s saxophones, clarinets, flutes, brass, piano, accordion, guitar, bass, and percussion. The title track gives the album a ten-minute centerpiece within its contemporary big-band sound.
