Why This CD Matters
The Piano is Michael Nyman’s original score for Jane Campion’s 1993 film, with Nyman serving as composer, arranger, conductor, producer, and pianist. The score features members of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and includes “The Heart Asks Pleasure First,” one of Nyman’s most widely recognized compositions. Recorded at Arco Studios in Munich, the music combines Nyman’s piano writing with orchestral and woodwind textures across 19 pieces.
