Why This Record Matters
99 Luftballons brought Nena international recognition through the German-language hit “99 Luftballons” and its English-language counterpart “99 Red Balloons.” The US album combines material recorded in Berlin with both versions of the song and reflects the new wave and synth-pop sound that brought the group worldwide attention.

Collector Note
This 1984 US Epic pressing carries the BFE 39294 catalog number, identifying the first budget-price issue rather than the later FE-prefix reissue. Pressed at Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Pitman, the supplied matrices carry the Pitman “P” identifier and STERLING mastering stamps on both sides. This edition also contains the documented title misprints for “Das Land Der Elefanten” and “Unerkannt Durch's Märchenland” on the jacket and/or label.
