Why This Record Matters
Only A Lad introduced Oingo Boingo’s distinctive combination of new wave, ska, art rock, theatrical vocals, and horn-driven arrangements. Produced by the band with Pete Solley, the album established Danny Elfman and Oingo Boingo as fixtures of the Southern California new wave scene through songs including “Little Girls,” “On The Outside,” “Capitalism,” and the title track.
Collector Note
Original 1981 US issue on A&M Records and I.R.S. Records, catalog number SP-4863, with the original illustrated inner sleeve included. The P prefix in the supplied matrix information indicates Columbia’s Pitman plant rather than the Terre Haute pressing represented by the closest Discogs entry, making this a probable, currently undocumented Pitman variation.
