Why This Record Matters
Murmur is R.E.M.’s debut studio album, recorded at Reflection Sound Studios with producers Don Dixon and Mitch Easter. The album includes “Radio Free Europe,” “Talk About The Passion,” and “Perfect Circle.” Its guitar-driven sound became closely associated with the emerging American alternative-rock scene of the early 1980s.

Collector Note
This 1983 U.S. I.R.S. Records SP-70604 stereo edition has the “(B)” label designation identifying an Electrosound Group Midwest pressing and was mastered at Sterling Sound by Greg Calbi. The user-confirmed Variant 2 runouts carry the cursive Emw and STERLING markings, and this copy includes the original inner sleeve.
