Why This Record Matters
Double Fun features “Every Kinda People,” the Andy Fraser composition that became Robert Palmer’s first major US hit. Palmer produced part of the album while Tom Moulton handled several tracks, with contributors including Bob Babbitt, Richie Hayward, Bill Payne, the Brecker Brothers, Gene Page, and Robert Greenidge. The record captures Palmer blending rock, pop, soul, and funk several years before his larger 1980s commercial breakthrough.
Collector Note
This 1978 US Island Records ILPS 9476 edition is the first-issue configuration with the black Island label featuring the colored palm-tree “i.” The supplied TM/JR runouts identify the Tom Moulton/José Rodriguez lacquer work, with mastering performed at Frankford/Wayne Mastering Labs. This copy includes the confirmed original stiff-paper inner sleeve.
