Where? is Ron Carter’s 1961 debut as a leader, recorded by Rudy Van Gelder at his Englewood Cliffs studio with Eric Dolphy, Mal Waldron, George Duvivier, and Charles Persip. Carter plays both bass and cello, while Dolphy contributes bass clarinet, alto saxophone, and flute. The session captures Carter at the beginning of a recording career that would make him one of the most extensively recorded bassists in jazz.

This 2024 Original Jazz Classics edition was mastered all-analog from the original tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. Issued as Craft Recordings/New Jazz/Prestige CR00718, it was pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI and presented in a tip-on sleeve with a textured front cover.
