Why This Record Matters
Can't Buy A Thrill was Steely Dan’s debut album, introducing the songwriting partnership of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker and the meticulous studio approach that would define the group’s catalog. “Do It Again” and “Reelin' In The Years” became major early hits, while “Dirty Work” developed into one of the album’s most enduring tracks. Produced by Gary Katz and engineered by Roger Nichols at The Village Recorder in Los Angeles, the album established the musical and production partnership behind Steely Dan’s classic 1970s run.
