Why This CD Matters
Gaucho was Steely Dan’s final studio album before Donald Fagen and Walter Becker’s long recording hiatus, and its seven-song program includes “Hey Nineteen,” “Babylon Sisters,” and “Time Out Of Mind.” Gary Katz produced the album, with Roger Nichols serving as executive engineer and Elliot Scheiner handling mixing and tracking duties. The sessions employed an extensive group of studio musicians and sophisticated rhythm arrangements by Steely Dan, Don Grolnick, Paul Griffin, and Rob Mounsey.

This U.S. MCA Records CD reissue/repress carries catalog number MCAD-37220, DIDX-56 identification, and barcode 076741722020. This identified edition was pressed by JVC and includes a six-page folded insert containing the album artwork, lyrics, and credits. The release credits Robert Ludwig with mastering and preserves the original seven-track album sequence.
