Why This Record Matters
Illinois is Sufjan Stevens’ 2005 album built around the history, geography, people, and mythology of Illinois, with “Chicago,” “John Wayne Gacy, Jr.,” and “Casimir Pulaski Day” among its best-known songs. Stevens wrote, arranged, recorded, engineered, and produced the album while performing much of its instrumentation. Its expansive arrangements incorporate strings, horns, choir, keyboards, banjo, percussion, and orchestral textures.

This is the April 1, 2016 U.S. Asthmatic Kitty AKR 014 two-LP reissue, pressed by Record Technology Incorporated under job number 14855. Kevin Gray cut the lacquers at Cohearent Audio, with KPG@CA and the RTI 14855 identifiers appearing in the supplied runouts.
