Why This Record Matters
Surf's Up marked one of the Beach Boys' most artistically ambitious early-1970s releases, moving well beyond the group's original surf-pop identity into darker and more introspective material. The album includes Carl Wilson's “Feel Flows,” Brian Wilson's “‘Til I Die,” and the long-awaited title composition “Surf's Up,” written by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks. The album reached No. 29 in the U.S. and has become one of the group's most closely followed post-Pet Sounds studio records.

Collector Note
This 1971 U.S. Brother/Reprise RS 6453 edition is a Columbia Records Terre Haute pressing, identified by the T markings in the supplied runouts. Both sides carry the Artisan Sound Recorders logo, identifying the lacquer-cutting facility used for this pressing. This copy retains both the original inner sleeve and the 11" × 22" gatefold lyric-and-credit insert.
