Why This Record Matters
The Age Of Plastic is the debut album by The Buggles, built around Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes’ combination of synthesizers, pop songwriting, and studio production. The album includes “Video Killed The Radio-Star,” whose music video became the first video broadcast by MTV when the channel launched in 1981. Horn and Downes subsequently joined Yes, while Horn developed a major career as a record producer.

Collector Note
This is the 1980 U.S. Island Records ILPS 9585 Winchester pressing, identified by the “--<” Winchester markings in the supplied runouts. Both sides carry STERLING markings for lacquers cut at Sterling Sound, with WW1 appearing in each supplied matrix. This label variation lacks the longer Warner perimeter text found on later pressings.
