The Chieftains with The Belfast Harp Orchestra – The Celtic Harp: A Tribute to Edward Bunting (CD, Album, 1993, RCA Victor 09026-61490-2)

Why This CD Matters
The Celtic Harp was created in tribute to Edward Bunting, whose preservation of traditional Irish harp music began with the Belfast Harp Festival of 1792. The Chieftains combine uilleann pipes, whistle, fiddle, flute, bodhrán, and Derek Bell’s harp with the larger sound of the Belfast Harp Orchestra. The album won the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album.

Collector Note
This original 1993 US edition was produced by Paddy Moloney and encoded in Dolby Surround while remaining compatible with standard stereo equipment. It combines studio recordings from Windmill Lane and UMRK with live performances recorded at Dublin’s National Concert Hall and London’s Barbican Hall. The foldout insert contains a double-sided four-panel presentation.
