Why This CD Matters
The Commitments Vol. 2 followed the successful soundtrack to Alan Parker’s 1991 film The Commitments, combining additional music associated with the film with seven newly recorded tracks. Its 11-song program draws from classic American soul and R&B, including material associated with Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Marvin Gaye, Martha and the Vandellas, and Sam Cooke. The album continued the film project’s focus on interpreting 1960s soul through the performances of its fictional Dublin band.
