Why This CD Matters
Picaresque was The Decemberists’ third studio album and helped broaden the audience for Colin Meloy’s narrative-driven songwriting and the band’s theatrical folk-rock sound. The album includes “16 Military Wives,” “The Engine Driver,” “We Both Go Down Together,” and the extended story-song “The Mariner's Revenge Song.” Produced by The Decemberists and Chris Walla, the sessions also featured contributions from Petra Haden, Chris Walla, and a group of brass and additional vocal performers.

The album was recorded at the Prescott Church in Portland and the Hall of Justice in Seattle, mixed at Avast!, and mastered by Ed Brooks at RFI Mastering. This edition was made by Americ Disc and presents the original 11-track album program.
