Love Stinks captures the J. Geils Band at the point where its blues- and R&B-rooted rock began moving toward the tighter pop sound that would culminate with Freeze-Frame. The album produced the enduring title track as well as “Come Back,” giving the band two of its best-known songs from the pre-MTV-breakthrough period. Recorded at Long View Farm in Massachusetts and produced by keyboardist Seth Justman, the album retains Peter Wolf’s lead vocals alongside J. Geils, Magic Dick, Danny Klein, and Stephen Bladd.

This 1980 U.S. EMI America SOO-17016 edition is a Winchester pressing, identified by the · ─◁ plant mark in the supplied Side B runout. Side A carries MCR JOE, identifying mastering by Joe Brescio at Master Cutting Room. This VG+/VG copy retains the original illustrated inner sleeve.
