The Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin – The Inner Mounting Flame (CD, Album, Reissue, Columbia CK 31067)

Why This CD Matters
The Mahavishnu Orchestra’s debut fuses jazz improvisation with rock power, complex rhythms, and Indian musical influence. John McLaughlin’s electric guitar, Jerry Goodman’s violin, Jan Hammer’s keyboards, Rick Laird’s bass, and Billy Cobham’s drums create a tightly interlocking ensemble sound. “Meeting Of The Spirits,” “The Noonward Race,” and the quieter “A Lotus On Irish Streams” show the range of the eight-track set.
