Why This Record Matters
All Hail West Texas was originally released in 2002 and represents the final album of the Mountain Goats’ early home-recording era. Written and recorded by John Darnielle, its fourteen songs include “The Best Ever Death Metal Band In Denton,” “Jenny,” and “The Mess Inside.” The 2013 Merge edition marked the album’s first vinyl release and was remastered from tape transfers of the original cassette recordings.

This 2013 U.S. Merge Records reissue carries catalog number MRG481 and barcode 673855048116 in a deluxe gatefold jacket. The remastered edition features liner notes by John Darnielle and was prepared from tapes transferred and sequenced with Alex Newport and John Vanderslice.
