Why This Record Matters
The Magician's Birthday is Uriah Heep's fifth studio album and continued the band's early-1970s combination of hard rock and progressive rock. Produced by Gerry Bron and recorded at Lansdowne Studios in London, the album features the lineup of David Byron, Mick Box, Ken Hensley, Gary Thain, and Lee Kerslake. Roger Dean designed the distinctive cover, while the title track extends to more than ten minutes.
