Why This Record Matters
The Secret Policeman's Other Ball (The Music) documents performances from the 1981 Amnesty International gala at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Its lineup includes Sting, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Phil Collins, Bob Geldof, Johnny Fingers and Donovan, with several artists presenting stripped-down versions of well-known material. The program concludes with the 9:20 ensemble performance of Bob Dylan's “I Shall Be Released,” bringing the participating musicians together for the finale.
