Why This Record Matters
Wall Of Voodoo’s debut EP introduced the Los Angeles group’s distinctive mixture of new wave, electronics, angular guitar, and Western-influenced textures. It includes early originals “Longarm” and “The Passenger” alongside the band’s stark reinterpretation of Johnny Cash’s “Ring Of Fire.” The EP predates the group’s breakthrough album Call of the West and “Mexican Radio.”
Collector Note
This 1982 US Index SP 70401 reissue was issued after I.R.S. acquired Index and is distinguished by gold-print details on the dog pictured on the sleeve. The supplied runouts identify a Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Terre Haute pressing and carry Jeff Sanders’ JS and Crystal Sound XTAL markings. This edition was recut for the I.R.S.-era reissue and retains the Index label branding with updated I.R.S./A&M information.
